>> NEW PUBLICATION!
TARA and the Abasuba Museum are pleased
to introduce TARA's newest publication, Managing Community Projects: TARA and the
Abasuba Community Peace Museum. This book, which documents
TARA's biggest community project to date, highlights the challenges and
opportunities in managing heritage with communities, and in particular
with the Abasuba people on Mfangano Island. We hope that you enjoy
reading about this inspirational project, and we would be happy to have
your feedback.
The
book, punctuated with high quality photographs and stories from many of
the actors involved in this community project, was co-authored by
Gloria K. Borona (TARA, Community Projects Manager) and Gladys Nyasuna
Wanga (former TARA Programme Manager), with a foreword by Alain Godonou
(former Director of EPA, currently UNESCO's Director of Cultural
objects). The book chronicles the genesis of the project, its
implementation, its successes and shortcomings. Also highlighted are
community project management principles/best practices and four other
TARA community projects (Dabous, Niger; Kakapel, Kenya; Lokori, Kenya
and; Kondoa, Tanzania). The production of this book was made possible
through the support of EPA (School for
African Heritage), with funds from the French Ministry of Foreign
Affairs.
